Welcome to the “Projects” page of my website. The work listed on this page represents an overview of experience by project type. It is not a complete list but will give you a sense of my varied practice as an Architect. Selected projects have a link to an image or to a full project profile. Commercial – Mixed Use

  •  The New City; Chicago, Illinois.
    • Multi-building retail/mixed-use project with residential tower component, seven level parking garage and central plaza.
    • Role: Project manager for various portions of the project during the Design Development and Construction Document phases. Completed the architectural specifications for the project (with LEED provisions).

  • DeKalb Mixed-Use; DeKalb, Illinois.
    • Multi-building, six to seven story, mixed-use project including retail and housing adjacent to downtown DeKalb.
    • Role: Project Manager during the pre-design and planning phases of the project (project did not proceed beyond planning).

  • Main and Osage Mixed-Use, Normal, Illinois.
    • Five story mixed-use project with ground level retail and four levels of condominium apartments.
    • Role: Specification writer; completed the architectural portions, coordinated consultants specifications and provided technical assistance to the Project Manager during the end of the Construction Documents Phase.
  • 500 West Monroe Street; Chicago, Illinois.
    • 45 story office tower with lobby retail space and twelve floors of parking.
    • Role: Design / technical assistance during design development and construction document phases; involved with detailing of the curtain wall system (skin) of the building.

  • Radiological Society of North America; Oak Brook, Illinois.
    • Build-out of 22,000 square feet of meeting rooms and offices space (plus the renovation of the ground level fitness center) utilizing Owner’s design standards.

    • Design and renovation of a number of small office spaces of varying size and complexity, from under 2,000 to over 10,000 square feet.

    • New mid-rise, concrete frame, boutique hotel, restaurant and meeting spaces (21 story, 195 rooms) in Chicago’s Streeterville area.
    • Role: Technical assistance to the design team and various construction administration tasks.

  • Firehouse Falls, Indoor Water Park; Bridgeview, Illinois.
    • 90,000 s.f. ($60 million) indoor water park and family entertainment center as part of a mixed-use development at the Bridgeview Soccer Complex.
    • Role: Project Manager/Project Architect from Schematic Design through Foundation Permit Drawings (project canceled and never completed).

  • DoubleTree Hotel; Chicago, Illinois
    • Complete renovation of former Holiday Inn on Chicago’s gold coast. Project focusing on drop-off area, lobby, restaurants and public spaces.
    • Role: Project Manager during the design phases.

  • The Right Start Store: various locations (over 25 stores).
    • Design refinement/roll-out for a new 2,500 square foot children’s specialty retail store.
    • Role: Project Manager; directed the projects; refined the initial design and managed the roll-out program for the client from project scheduling through construction support.

  •  Contempo Casuals: various locations (over 10 stores).
    • Design refinement/roll-out program for 4,000 – 8,000 square foot specialty retail store .
    • Role: Project Manager; directed the projects; refined the initial design to meet budget requirements and managed the roll-out program for the client.
  • Tensuke Market Sushi Bar: Elk Grove Village, Illinois.
    • Renovation and upgrades to a sushi bar in a Japanese grocery store including prep and serving areas.
    • Role: Project Manager; directed all phases of the project.
  • Brothers Gourmet Coffee Bars: various locations.
    • Design development and Construction Documents for 2,000-3,000 square foot coffee houses.
    • Role: Project Manager; directed all phases of the projects.
  • Miscellaneous Retail and Food Service projects in the Chicago area.
    • Role: Contributed to the projects; design and drafting tasks, specification, client interaction and construction support; some project management. Selected projects include:
      • Marshall Field’s, various departments, Chicago area.
      • Brookstone Store, various locations, US.
      • The Patisserie, food court outlet, Mount Prospect, Illinois.

Schools | Libraries | Civic | Public

  • CHA – Altgeld Gardens – Library / Childcare / Community Spaces; Chicago, Illinois
    • 40,000 S.F. / 1-story, $16 million, LEED Gold, mixed-use building housing a branch of the Chicago Public Library (CPL), a licensed day care center for over 150 kids and multi-purpose community spaces for both Library and community use at Altgeld Gardens Homes, a historic Chicago Housing Authority (CHA) project (project ongoing).
    • Role: Project Manager; directed the project from conception to the completion of construction.

  • CHA – Gautreaux Center (Chicago Youth Centers) Childcare Center; Chicago, Illinois
    • 10,000 S.F. / 1-story, renovation of an existing childcare facility. In addition to general building renovation (both inside and out), the program is being expanded to add school-age activities to the existing 2 to 5 year daycare program (project ongoing).
    • Role: Project Manager; directed the project from conception to the completion of construction.

  • Cook County – Child Advocacy Centers; Chicago & Rolling Meadows, Illinois
    • Build-out of existing space at two Cook County courthouses into childcare / drop-off facilities for children of parents making court appearances. The Chicago facility can accommodate ages 2 to 16 and the Rolling Meadows facility can accommodate ages 6 months to 16.
    • Role: Project Manager; directed the project from end of the construction document phase to the completion of construction.

  • GSA – Custom House Child Care Center; Chicago, Illinois
    • Complete renovation of an existing, 8,500 S.F. licensed daycare center.
    • Role: Project Manager; directed the project during the construction phase.

  • PBC/CPS – Walter Payton College Preparatory High School Annex; Chicago, Illinois.
    • 49,000 S.F. / 3-story, $20 million school addition. Firm served as Architect of Record for this LEED project. Program included: classrooms, gymnasium, cafe / lounge space, black box theater, some renovation in the existing school including a new science lab and site work.
      • Chicago Building Congress (CBC), 2017, merit award winner for buildings under $55 million.
      • Vestibule / Generator Project – Separate and concurrent CPS project ($300,000).
      • New Parking Lot Project – Separate and concurrent CPS Project ($1,000,000).
    • Role: Project Manager; directed the project from construction document phase to the completion of construction.

  • PBC/CPS – 2013 School Improvement Program (SIP); Chicago, Illinois
    • Renovation, refurbishment and repair work including: masonry repair, roof work, interior finishes, selected MEPFP and kitchen work, some classroom reconfiguration / new program spaces (computer lab, media lab, engineering lab, science room) to four schools as part of the 2013 program (John P. Atlgeld [now Wentworth], Clara Barton, Scott Joplin & Fort Dearborn Elementary Schools). Total construction budget of about $8 million.
    • Role: Project Manager for the Design Architect during the Design, Procurement and Construction Phase; worked in tandem with the PBC Project Manager to insure that the work of the AOR/Design-Build team met the scope and quality requirements of the CPS program. Same role during the close-out phase but for 24 schools.
  • PBC/CPS – Edgebrook Elementary School; Chicago, Illinois.
    • 34,000 S.F. / 2-story, $10 million, school addition. Firm served as Architect of Record for this LEED Silver project. Program included: eight classrooms, computer lab, science lab, offices and full cafeteria suite. There was also extensive site work, new playground and green roof.
    • Role: Project Manager; directed the project from transfer package to completion of construction documents.

  • CPS – Buckingham School; Chicago, Illinois.
    • Masonry repair, roof work, window replacement, some interior finish work, some MEP work and other minor repairs to a small neighborhood special needs elementary school.
    • Role: Project Manager; directed the project from start to finish.
  • CPS – Smyth School; Chicago, Illinois.
    • Masonry repair, roof work, cornice/parapet restoration, window replacement, some MEP work and other minor repairs to a large neighborhood elementary school.
    • Role: Project Manager; directed the project from start to finish.
  • Mount Horeb Area Historical Society – Driftless Historium; Mount Horeb, Wisconsin.
    • 15,000 S.F. / 2-story, $1.5 million local history museum. The project included the renovation of an existing 5,000 S.F. museum and 10,000 S.F. of new construction. The program included: lobby/gift shop, permanent exhibit area, temporary exhibit area, programming / large meeting, research / meeting room, receiving / work area, archive and artifact storage, administrative and support spaces.
    • Role: Architectural design services and project guidance to the building committee.

  • Lawrence Hall Youth Services; Chicago, Illinois.
    • Phased new campus and headquarters facility including dormitory style housing, school and administrative offices for Lawrence Hall.
    • Role: Technical support to the design team for various portions of the project.

  • Chicago Public Library (CPL) – Altgeld Gardens Branch – see CHA Altgeld Gardens Project (above).
  • Benton Harbor Public Library; Benton Harbor, Michigan.
    • 28,000 square foot/two-story renovation and addition. A complete make-over of the facility, both building systems and functionality.
    • Role: Technical support, LEED specifications, some project management (project did not move forward).

  • Defiance Public Library; Defiance, Ohio.
    • Phased renovation of a historic Carnegie library. All new MEP systems, new entry element, complete reconfiguration of interior spaces, restoration of historic interior elements.
    • Role: Technical support, specifications, construction administration, some project management.
  • Brown County Public Library; Green Bay, Wisconsin.
    • Skylight replacement project. First phase of a potentially multi-phased project. New skylight element, structural work, lighting and other incidental work.
    • Role: Project Manager; directed the project during design and construction documents phases.

Residential | Institutional

  • CHA – Irene McCoy Gaines Senior Apartments; Chicago, Illinois
    • Complete building assessment for a 1960s, 17 story, 150 unit, concrete framed senior public housing project for the Chicago Housing Authority (CHA).
    • Role: Project Manager, led the assessment team, organized and edited the final report.
  • Thorncreek Senior Living; Thornton, Illinois.
    • Five story, wood framed construction over a concrete parking level, includes 46 units and a number of tenant amenities.
    • Role: Provided technical assistance to the project team during design and construction.

  • Healthier Home, Chicago, Illinois
    • Development of a market rate, three to six unit ‘healthy and sustainable’ prototype housing development with a goal of being able to reproduce the model.
    • Role: Project Manager, directed the project (project never fully completed).
  • Grace Park Senior Housing; Schiller Park, Illinois
  • Saint Francis Monastery; Milwaukee, Wisconsin
    • Master Planning for 30,000 S.F. Monastery complex (1890’s), parish center and other adjacent parish structures to determine the future course of the complex.
    • Project Manager, directed the project and contributed to the design effort.
  • Deborah’s Place – Transitional Housing; Chicago, Illinois.
    • Renovation of a 30,000 S.F. (1890’s) convent into a single-room transitional housing, training and support facility for homeless women.
    • Project Manager; directed the project during bidding and construction phases.

  • Medical Office / Clinical Spaces, Northshore University Health Systems; Gurnee, Illinois
    • Build-out of three medical suites: primary care, radiology and cardiology in a new “core & shell” space – 26,600 square feet, LEED rated.
    • Role: Project Management of the construction operations (Architect: ESA).

  • Medical Suites (2), Illinois Masonic Medical Center; Chicago, Illinois.
    • Build-out of two medical suites for a radiology center and psychiatric learning center – approximately 3,000 square feet.
    • Role: Project Manager from design development thru CD’s.
  • Health Center, University of Chicago – Friend Center; Chicago, Illinois.
    • Renovation of a portion of a 30,000 s.f., 1950’s children’s psychiatric campus into a full service health clinic (pediatrics, ob-gyn, x-ray, etc.).
    • Role: Assisted the project manager and directed portions of the design development and construction document phases of the project.
  • Medical Imaging Facilities.
    • Renovation and new construction of imaging facilities of varying sizes and complexity; free-standing clinics, medical suites, hospital and clinical spaces – both public and private contracts throughout the country (involved with over 30 projects).
    • Role: Contributed to various phases of the projects including Project Architect role; provided construction support for a number of later projects. Selected projects include:

  • Community Christian Church; Naperville, Illinois.
    • Planning and design for a new phased, multi-purpose, worship and Christian Life Facility.
      • Master Planning Phase anticipating 80,000 – 100,000 S.F.
      • Phase I design and build-out; a 35,000 S.F., three level Multi-purpose Worship Facility featuring a gymnasium and coffee shop.
      • Phase II design and build-out; a 25,000 S.F., three level addition, features a stepped floor theatrical / classroom / presentation space.
    • Role: Project Manager, directed all projects and contributed to the design effort.

    • Assessment, renovation, repair and refurbishment work at various federal buildings in the Chicago area.
    • Role: Contributed to various phases of the projects including project management and construction support for a number them. Selected projects include:

    • Restoration of the 1920’s Elks National Memorial (classical rotunda) building: exterior walls, plaza pavers, parapets, steel windows and roof systems.

  • 450 South Federal Plaza; Chicago Illinois
    • Redevelopment and restoration of the plaza adjacent to the Chicago Metropolitan Correctional Center. Work included replacing the lost trees, new flatwork materials, drainage and storm water management upgrades, and new landscaping.
    • Role: Technical assistance to the design team during the design and construction phases

    • Renovation and addition (600 square foot) to an 1890’s two-story Victorian home. Addition included new kitchen/breakfast area and new master bedroom suite.

    • Renovation of a 1,000 square foot coach house; included new kitchen, stair to second floor and fireplace – complete reorganization of space.
