Benton Harbor Public Library Renovation
The library at Benton Harbor is very typical of late 1960’s modernism. It may have functioned well at one time but was showing signs of age and neglect. In addition, its MEP functions were outdated and the library program required a complete update to bring it into the 21st century. The project proposes a gut rehab of almost 28,000 square feet of existing space with a small addition in the front of the building. The 4,500 square foot, glassy two-story addition, along with a series of new bay windows on the opposite side, provide a new entry, much needed natural light and views to a proposed park. The addition will house a quiet room and a children’s library. The project also includes a demonstration kitchen and a gathering/gallery space connected to an outdoor patio, for special functions. The proposed LEED-rated project would contain extensive sustainable features. Unfortunately, this project was never completed.

Contributed to the project from design development through construction documents; technical Architect, developed the LEED Specifications.
